Yummy Time: Bojangles Biscuit Recipe

Well, you know I think I'm Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart's god child, so I'm always baking. At least twice a week.... Here is the recipe that I used to make Bojangles yummy biscuits! Had to have some mouth watering biscuits to soak up my stewed fish broth (yeah, I'm Bahamian).

2 cups self rising flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 teaspoons confectioners sugar

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening (such as Crisco)

1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Melted butter (about 1/4 cup)

Stir together the flour, baking powder & 10x sugar. Cut in the shortening until pieces are about the size of grains of rice. Stir in the buttermilk (you may need less buttermilk; start with 3/4 cup and add more as needed). Knead a few times, roll out on a floured board or counter top to 3/4-inch thickness. Be careful not to work dough too much or add too much flour, or you'll have dry biscuits. Cut with an oversized biscuit cutter (about 3-inches). Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake about 12 minutes in a preheated 450 degree oven.

Fly Guy: Reggie Love

Well, little is known of this week’s Fly Guy Reggie Love. I have chosen to feature him because men like him are often overlooked and simply passed by. As women, we should never hesitate to meet new people and step outside of our “type”. Now, aesthetically, Reggie isn’t someone that I may date, but he seems like a hard worker and a great man. (You know they always look great on paper..lol) It doesn’t hurt that he kicks it with President Obama 24/7. Now that’s pretty fly huh?

Here’s a little background info Check it! He graduated with a degree in political science and public policy at Duke University. He was a forward for the Duke Blue Devils basketball team and played wide receiver for the Duke Football team. So talented ain’t he? Lol.. Now this is the part that I love, Reggie applied for an internship on Capitol Hill in 2006 for a position in Obama's Senate office. He was hired with the title "deputy political director." He was there in the beginning. Like dating a geeky baller in high school and he becomes a gorgeous NFL/NBA player… I digress..lol.. He then transitioned to Obama's aide. In this role, he had to anticipate any and all of Obama's needs. As part of a tradition, Love and Obama played basketball every day there was a primary during the 2008 presidential election. Love is still an aide to Obama and kicks it in the White House. And ABC News just named him "Person of the Week" on January 23, 2009. (Oh, by the way, he’s only 26!)

I like the fact that Reggie didn’t just jump on the band wagon with President Obama, he saw greatness even back then. That’s what we Fly Girls have to master! Seeing greatness in places that others do not. This allows us to find great treasures!
Yaaaaaaaaaay Fly Guy Reggie!

So now we travel first class to change the forecast
Never in bunches, just me and you
I loved your point of view cause you held no punches
Still I left you for months on end
It's been months since I checked back in
Well somewhere in a small town, somewhere lockin a mall down
Woodgrain, four and change,

Though I can't let you know it,

Pretend to be heroic, that's just one to grow with
But deep inside a nigga so sick

The Light
By Common

I never knew a luh, luh-luh, a love like this
Gotta be somethin for me to write this
Queen, I aint seen you in a minute
Wrote this letter, and finally decide to send it
Signed sealed delivered for us to grow together
Love has no limit, lets spend it slow forever
I know your heart is weathered by what studs did to you
I aint gon assault em cause I probably did it too
Because of you, feelings I handle with care
Some niggaz recognize the light but they cant handle the glare
You know I aint the type to walk around with matchin shirts
If relationship is effort I will match your work
I wanna be the one to make you happiest, it hurts you the most
They say the end is near, its important that we close.... to the most, high
Regardless of what happen on him lets rely

Love Is
By COMMON
Yeah, yeah[Chorus]
How beautiful love can be
On the streets love is hard to see
It's a place I got to be
Loving you is loving me
How beautiful love can be
On the streets love is hard to see
Gotta reach that frequency
Loving you is loving me
[Verse 1]
Yeah, you know what love is
Even found it on the ground where the thugs live
My man had to dig deep to find his
Couldn't sleep 'cause on the real he had five kids
Live nig's, real niggaz express and taste it
At crap games, black dames and big faces
Cases in court, fam' showin' love and support
You and your baby's mom thought that love was a sport
As men we were taught to hold it in
That's why we don't know how 'til we're older men
If love is a place I'ma go again
At least now, now I know to go within
At time it can take ya for a spin
Heartbreak hotel then you're home again
I've seen love make a nigga soul pretend
Like a story that he don't want to end
Yo
[Chorus]
[Verse 2]
It's all love where we come from
In the hood love we was told to run from
That same hood where the guns sung
We holla love, hopin' it would come one
Crack got so many lives undone
From lack of love many hide some run
I knew this girl with a son who dreamt of actin' in plays
Demonstration with her man had her trapped in a maze
Tryin' to find herself again, much of that she'd have gave
Love can free us, to it some of us react as a slave
Funny, we love 'em more when they're relaxed in a grave
Wonder if a thug is raw, is he actin' afraid?
Everybody loves sun, why do I attract shade?
Heard of the love of money, but compassion it pays
Talk about it with my youth so she'd understand
What it is to be loved by a man
Uh
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
Some say that I'm a dreamer 'cause I talk about it often
Seen the hardest nigga soften wit' his homie in a coffin
We walk and stand in, fall in it
With the right companion we all in it
Mary sang a song about it, having broad limits
In the game of life, it's the scrimage
Reminiscing on letters I wrote in my small days
A letter to the people, love always
Yeah
[Chorus]

Distraught Father Kills Wife, 5 Kids, Self
By THOMAS WATKINS,
AP

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 28) - In one upstairs bedroom, the bodies of twin 2-year-old boys were found beside their dead mother. In another bedroom, 5-year-old twin girls and their 8-year-old sister lay next to their lifeless father.

Officers discovered the horrific scene after rushing to a home in Wilmington, prompted by the father's distraught letter faxed to a TV station describing a "tragic Police believe Ervin Lupoe, 40, killed his five children and his wife before turning the gun on himself. Both adults were recently fired from their hospital jobs.

"Why leave our children in someone else's hands?" Lupoe wrote in his letter faxed to KABC-TV. The station posted the letter on its Web site with some parts redacted.
The station called police after receiving the fax, and a police dispatch center also received a phone call from a man who stated, "I just returned home and my whole family's been shot." Police are unsure who the male caller was, but they suspect it was the father.

Officers rushed to the home in Wilmington, a small community between the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the bodies.

All the victims were shot in the head, some multiple times, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. The killings may have occurred between Monday evening and early Tuesday, based on neighbors' accounts of firecracker sounds, he said.

Although the fax — addressed to "whom it may concern" and explaining "why we are dead" — asserted that the wife, Ana Lupoe, planned the killings of the whole family, police Lt. John Romero said Ervin Lupoe was the suspect. A revolver was found next to his body.

It was the fifth mass death of a Southern California family by murder or suicide in a year. Police urged those facing tough economic times to get help rather than resort to violence.

"Today our worst fear was realized," said Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner. "It's just not a solution. There's just so many ways you find alternatives to doing something so horrific and drastic as this."

Ervin Lupoe removed three of the children from school about a week and a half ago, saying the family was moving to Kansas, the principal told KCAL-TV. Crescent Heights Elementary School Principal Cherise Pounders-Caver said nothing seemed to be troubling Ervin Lupoe, and she did not ask why the family was moving.

Kaiser Permanente Medical Center West Los Angeles released a statement confirming Lupoe and his wife were fired as medical technicians more than a week ago. The hospital said the firings followed an internal investigation but would not specify why they lost their jobs.

The letter indicated that Lupoe and his wife — both 40 — had been investigated for misrepresenting their employment to an outside agency to obtain childcare. He claimed that an administrator told the couple on Dec. 23: "You should not even had bothered to come to work today you should have blown your brains out."

Lupoe's letter said the couple complained to the human resources department and eventually were offered an apology but two days later they were fired.

"They did nothing to the manager who stated such and did not attempt to assist us in the matter, knowing we have no job and five children under 8 years with no place to go. So here we are," the note said.

Forgive me....

Hey Lovelies....

Act Like a Lady..... Think Like A Man....

Here is the book description>>>>>

Steve Harvey, the host of the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, can't count the number of impressive women he's met over the years, whether it's through the "Strawberry Letters" segment of his program or while on tour for his comedy shows. These are women who can run a small business, keep a household with three kids in tiptop shape, and chair a church group all at the same time. Yet when it comes to relationships, they can't figure out what makes men tick. Why? According to Steve it's because they're asking other women for advice when no one but another man can tell them how to find and keep a man. In Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, Steve lets women inside the mindset of a man and sheds lights on concepts and questions such as:

—The Ninety Day Rule: Ford requires it of its employees. Should you require it of your man?
—How to spot a mama's boy and what if anything you can do about it.
—When to introduce the kids. And what to read into the first interaction between your date and your kids.
—The five questions every woman should ask a man to determine how serious he is.
— And more...

Sometimes funny, sometimes direct, but always truthful, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man is a book you must read if you want to understand how men think when it comes to relationships.

Do I keep dating the same guy?

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”- Bejamin Franklin

Now, I did the craziest thing today! I did a matrix of alllllllll the guys I've dated. I grabbed pictures from myspace, facebook, some old scrapbooks, picture mail, all of that. And I started looking at all these characters. I was like, "Wait, do I keep dating the same guy?"... lol... They all had great smiles, loved God, winning personalities, dressed well, all of that. But guess what? I am not with any of them anymore :O(

Is it just me or have you found that sometimes you’re attracted to the same kind of guy, and they even have behaviors similar to your ex? Then you have the nerve to get mad that they end up acted just like the last fool you dated! Wait, it gets better, YOU BLAME THEM. The same saga continues, same script, different cast!

What happened? I experienced many of the same issues after my different relationships became settled. So I'm thinking maybe it's not them, maybe it was something that I was doing. Maybe what my "ideal man" looks like is not the one that God wants for me. Or maybe God is keeping me for some purpose. These are the thoughts that run through my head when I meet different guys and actually entertain dating them. "Lord is this it, is he the one?" I have to stop myself from doing that because every person you meet is not meant for you to marry.

I have been so perplexed by why all my ex beaus reminded me so much of one another that I had to do a little research. In one article, it says that when we date similar people, it concisely illustrates how we make choices. We have to learn from our experiences, take responsibility for our choices, and ultimately make different ones. This not only goes for dating, but across the board in life.

I think it's ok to be drawn to certain characteristics in a man that seem familiar to us, but we have to recognize dysfunction when it approaches! It has to happen in the beginning. Of course you can't possibly know allllllll the ins and out of a person upon first meeting them, but you have to become at discerning. You have to look at the bigger picture. Can this person be a part of my destiny? Does he complete me? Can I see myself loving him when his hair turns gray, the muscles turn to flab, and if the checks stop coming in? Those questions may seem a little far fetched, but you have to always think with the END in mind.

In knowing that, I realize that every guy I've had dealings with were all a part of the journey. I've learned so much about loving a man, being a better woman, defining & embracing my worth, and how to prepare for my ultimate destination, my HUSBAND!

So in this dating game, be conscious, be aware, and be wise. You never know what God may be doing. Stay prayed up and prepared! You might just get what you pray for~!

I met my PJ!

What God has for you, it is for you.... Now, out of all the people in the audience, a camera crew chose me to be interviewed for PJ's documentary that will be aired in London. When favor is on your life, there is simply nothing you or anyone else can do about it. In addition to that, the production crew took all my information down and let me know that they will be contacting me in the very near future concerning this project. Who knows, PJ may call me himself! lol. Man, God is good. And I got to take a picture with him. I will post some video of the concert later.

PJs music is so real. You can hear that he is truly telling his life story. It's almost like his melodic diary. All his feelings and emotions have been put to song. You know I was dern near in a trance at the concert...lol.. I'm still floating.

Ok, let me get back to work....

Who made that dress?

So, we all saw Michelle's Gown last night. At first I was like, "ehhhhhhhh, I don't know". But now, it has kinda grown on me. I'm on the fence about the dress itself, but the overall look was perfect for her. Now if the average First Lady would have put that on, it would have been a mess, ol' girl definitely held it down. And those arms were not playing with yhall. Michelle is working it out. She's definitely probably an "aggressor"...lol.. ( You have to holla at pinkcufflynx.com for all that info) But, I digress.

Michelle has a great responsibility in the fashion world right now. While the nation is eating out of the palm of her hands, she has to carefully choose each outfit. No more throwing on a Harvard hoodie and some flip flops, Ms.Lady has to briiiiiiiiiing it every time. Good luck with that Michelle~!

Now, her dress designer was Jason Wu. He is a 20-something, former Barbie clothing designer that prides himself on knowing the female silhouette. He has effortlessly designed clothes for Ivanka Trump, Lisa Cant, and Amber Valletta. Wu's signature is creating hourglass dresses that encompasses the glamour of Old Hollywood and the class of royalty.
Check out his fashion special below, his stuff is kinda cute. This lil' dude is about to blow up. He doesn't even know it. The dress Michelle had on last night cost $3500. Now you know those prices are about to sky rocket! I might have to holla at me a little Asian boy. Let me stop, he probably doesn't even like women. Yeah, Im almost sure. lol..
Soooooooooo, did you like the dress? Let me know...

Frankie to Bush: Holllllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Well, time for homeboy to get all his little coloring books, toy trucks, and lil' horsey out of the White House. Enough has been enough.

Change has arrived and first on the list is YOU player!!!!!!! When the clock strikes 12 noon, you need to find somewhere to stay. With all these foreclosed homes under your watch, the options are right at about, mmmmmm.... MILLIONS! So, take your pick.

Barack, so this fool how to swag out an administration. I'm tired. lol.. So as Keyshia Cole's mama Frankie would say>>>> Hollllllllllllllllllllllllllaaaaa Bush!

Tonight is the Night

Well, if you're like me, you're wondering about the love life of Michelle and Barack. Not like all the gritty details (well............lol) But the way that man looks at her, it does something to ME! If my man can't find it in himself to look at me the same way, then I don't need him. That is love, admiration and true respect. Their relationship can be analyzed a thousand ways. But the proof is in the eyes. That man loves her and she looooooooooooooves that man.

Uhhhh, but tonight, like Young Joc says, "It's going dowwwwwwwwwwwwwn!!!"... lol. I know the White House is old, I'm sure the walls will hold up... lol

~Fly Admiration!

Inspired Change. Dreams Realized. Work Begins

So much to be said, such much to celebrate, so many moments to capture. Pause with me to bask in this moment. For all of us that have been able to take part in this moment, whether it be voting, marching, protesting, or standing up for your rights, this day means so much. This moment right here truly, truly has been worth it. Our ancestors, our predecessors, and even our oppressors have made this moment possible, so we must stand tall and be proud.

It is such a blessing to be living in a time where a black man with his beautiful black wife and children, can live in the White House. And not only live in that house, but to serve our nation in leadership. This family has set the tone for colorless leadership, been an example of the strength of black family and even black love. I am overwhelmed with emotion when I think about how far God has brought us.

Instead of typing a litany of rhetoric, I am going to enjoy this day by pouring into the youth of South West Atlanta. We are hosting 400 kids at a local church to watch the inauguration alllllll day! (Pray for me... lol) I am going to work today to share this moment with my students and let them now we are in the "Yes We Can" generation. The unique thing about the "Yes We Can" generation is that it's colorless, ageless, and timeless. It is never too late to follow your dreams. It's never too late to be who you want to be. It's never too late to start over. If you believe that God has set you apart for great purpose, know that you shall mount up on wings like an eagle.

So my dear eagle, bask in all the wonderful glory that is found in this moment and write down all these emotions and feelings. This exact moment, these exact feelings, this exact day will never be again. So make this day count!

And never forget!

All Hail to the King.. Martin Luther that is.....

Well, today is Martin Luther the Kang Day.. lol... I am having a comical moment since I have said the word "moment" about ONE MILLION times, "historic" about 1,000 times, and "overwhelming" about 214 times. So, let me indulge for a moment (dang it, said "moment" again... lol)

But in all seriousness, we owe so much to the work of Martin Luther King Jr, and sooooooo many others that remain nameless. I don't even want to ponder where we would be instead, I want to thank God for what he has done and how we continue to make strides daily.

Here is a little history of MLK day and why it should be a day ON and not just a day OFF~ !

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a United States holiday marking the birthdate of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday, January 15. It is one of three United States federal holidays to commemorate an individual person.

King was the chief spokesman of the nonviolent civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. He was assassinated in 1968.

The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination. Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed in 1986. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

Winter Night Treat: Banana Nut Muffins!

Really easy, really yummy! Perfect for a cold winter night!

~Fly Baker

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 overripe bananas
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
2 eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup pecans, chopped

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and lightly butter 2 muffin tins.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside. Mash 2 of the bananas with a fork in a small bowl so they still have a bit of texture. With an electric mixer fitted with a wire whisk, whip the remaining bananas and sugar together like you mean it, for a good 3 minutes. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla and beat well, scraping down the sides of the bowl once or twice. Mix in the dry ingredients just until incorporated. Fold in the nuts and the mashed bananas with a rubber spatula. Spoon the batter into the muffin tins to fill them about halfway. Give them a rap on the counter to get any air bubbles out.

Bake until a toothpick stuck in the muffins comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes before turning the muffins out. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Happy Birthday to the Good Reverend!

On this day, I want to wish one of my favorite men of all time a Happy Birthday! This day means so much for me (Founders' Day)! I love me some Martin Luther the King Jr. ( lol) . I just looooooooooved what he stood for and how great he looked in a suit. It is so crazy how history often repeats itself with kindred spirits. Sometimes when you look into Barak Obama's eyes, you can see that very same thing. Hope, Love, Courage, the ability to see beyond our circumstances.

Not going to post all this long drawn out info, just take a moment to pause and celebrate what this great man stood for. Not to mention how good looking he was. Speaking of which, what happened to men dressing up everyday! Even if it was to the store or to go have coffee? (post to come!!!) I digress! Happy Birthday to the Good Reverend Doctor King!

The Dream has been realized, now wake up and be a part of it!

Speaking of Not Easily Broken

Sooooooo, I'm doing this fast thing (biblically, you're not supposed to tell everyone that you're fasting, but I'm only doing it on here because I dont know who it may minister to). And whhhhhhhhhhhhy does every commercial come on with meat filled entrees and savory dishes? Goodness! I'm right on the edge of grabbing me a wing! lol. But when I thought of the goodness and mercy that God has bestowed upon me, it's just not worth it.

People have been asking me, "How are you doing this" and "Why"?. My simple reply is obedience is better than sacrifice. (I Sam 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.) Now, this statement has been interpreted in so many different ways. To me it is saying, when God tell you something, you need to do it. You need to be obedient. What good is it to sacrifice your 1st check for first fruits, if you're still sleeping with someone's husband? You disobedience completely cancels out your sacrifice. Now, I am not saying to sleep with anyone and not to tithe, what I am saying is clear. You must be obedient in order to receive the fullness of God's glory. It is critical to your survival.

I was reading some sermons online and reading more about what this scripture really means and it makes sense. We as saints are doing God such a great deeds by giving him money, time, or ourselves. But guess what, it ALL belongs to him anyway. We are merely returning what already belongs to God. What really, really gets God's attention is when we submit to his will and are obedient. That is worth mountains more to him. Your sacrifices are important, because it shows that you give reverence to God. Obedience is when you truly follow his word, which is what he wants us to do ultimately.

According to Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, the definition of obey is as follows:
1. To give ear to; to execute the commands of; to yield submission to; to
comply with the orders of; 2. To submit to the authority of; to be ruled by; 3.
To yield to the impulse, power, or operation of; as, a ship obeys her helm
When reading the definition of "obey", the word that jumps out to me is submit. Now this is not an easy thing to do. Submitting is like when God commands you to stop dating a guy that you feel is the total package. In your mind hes "the one", but God has deemed another young man as the one. Or when God has commanded you to change your lifestyle or to fast, you simply ignore his command. You have to know that everything God tells you to do is for a purpose. Know that God always has your best interest in mind (Jeremiah 29:11, do some research playa!..lol). But really, you have to know that no matter what, submission is key to being a believer. Its key to getting results.

Now, since all these food commercials are getting to me, I HAVE to get in the bed. I am not going to give the enemy any room. lol.. I refused to be easily broken!

Not Easily Broken

Yea, I went to see Not Easily Broken by T.D. Jakes. Now, maybe I was sitting a little close to the screen (since we got there 10 minutes after it started and it was a black movie at a black theater, so it was packed) but I wasn't impressed. Now before you go telling me that you loved the movie and already have it on bootleg, I just didn't feel any fireworks from it. Now, did it have all the elements that I expected? Yes! Drama, comedy, spiritual quotes, and the fine piece off chocolate that is Morris Chestnut. The plot just left a lot to be desired. I swear I could have written this movie, play by play. Maybe I should become a screenwriter.

Now I will say this, it left a lot of things for me to ponder about in my own relationships and day to day interactions. I think the movie did a great job of trying to portray an average married couple coping with reality. Taraji did a pretty convincing job of a black woman focused on her career and creating the life that "looked" great. Besides Morris Chestnut being fine, his role as a husband was "ok" to me. He was understanding and supportive in the movie, but as a character, he didn't jump off the screen. Kevin Hart really saved the movie comically. As well as Niecy Nash. They both provided the crazy anecdotes for the film, thus evoking a sea of laughter from the audience. Jennifer Lewis placed an excellent role as a mother-in-law that's overly involved in a daughter's marriage. Her not looking all "diva-fied" help solidify her convincing role as an older, overly controlling mother. The other character, which weren't that memorable, were mediocre. I feel like I've seen this movie and this cast 1,000 times before.

Overall, the movie was a solid effort, but the earth didn't shatter for me. This movie was a great way to bring up conversations in many relationships whether it be friends, lovers, or marriages. It is important to know what a person's stand is concerning various situations. So I do applaud the movie for providing that. This movie is one that you probably would have to see for yourself (bootleg recommended if you're low on cash. lol). Only if you have the time and the money. Not really a must see like that. But hey, if you're not doing anything else, knock yourself out!

Definition of a Boo

What exactly is a boo? This question is asked all the time. Many times we find ourselves with someone we deem cool enough to be with without "being" with them. With this I mean, you want all the benefits of a relationship without the so called headache. Supposedly! Is a relationship really that much of a headache? The whole no title to me seems to make things more stressful and leaves soooooo much gray area. Especially when you call yourself trying to move forward and find that special one. Now, there are some instances where the person you are seeing is merely a "pit stop" to your final destination, True love. But guess what, you might be giving all the pseudo loving to a person who doesn't deserve it or know what to do with it.

Here are some quotes I found answering the question, "What is a boo?":

"It means that he is not buying the cow, when he is getting the milk for free,
same with the girlfriend, it takes two to tango".

"It means you aren't really boyfriend and girlfriend .... There is no such
thing as part time, either you are or either you aren't, it can't be "part
time". . ."

"It means no commitment and those kind of people are shallow. They are also
known as users or disposable people. Just like disposable lighters, when the
flame is gone, you toss the used up lighter in the trash and get another."

"Sounds like a silly term created by someone who doesn't want to
commit"

That means he doesn't want the title of your boyfriend but enjoys being
"like a boyfriend". Kinda like "playing house". No real commitment but it's fun
"to act"

Dating as whole can be complicated in itself, but no titles or terms to the relationship only makes it worst. You really have to be clear when YOU set out dating. You should ask yourself, "Am I looking for a fling? Am I looking for a casual date? Or am I looking for a serious relationship?" Sometimes you may not know what you want, but without proper definition & defined intentions, the relationship will end up turning for the worst. 9 times out 10, you really want a genuine, functional relationship. But with the recession we are experiencing in the dating world, you end up in a place where you never thought you would be, alone, but in a relationship. This is one of the scariest places in the world.

You would think a relationship with no boundaries or parameters would be liberating, but it's not. It's actually more dangerous. It leaves immeasurable room for insecurities, pain, misunderstandings, lies, jealously, miscommunication, you name it! Now, it's different when you are with some one just to have a steady date for the movies, or a date for your family reunion and office Christmas party, or even just a late night jump-off situation (which I HIGHLY discourage! ). You may both think its ok to see other people, but you better establish that in the beginning. Even if you do that, the more you are with this person, the more attached you will become. The thought of them being with another person would truly tick you off. But guess what? You can't get upset, because you're not allowed to. You established the non-exclusiveness of your relationship early on, so there you are, left in the dark. This is an awful feeling, but you set yourself up for it by not placing an official title on your "situation".

The fact of the matter is you need to know what you're getting into and what the purpose of it is. Now, granted you don't get all deep from the moment you meet a person, but at some point, you need to set the record straight. No room for gray area or heartache. You can't expect commitment when the other person is merely looking for a bed warmer. If it's casual, then makes sure it stays that way. But when you start straddling the fence and start feeling overly attached, you need to put all your cards on the table and establish some sort of commitment. If not, you will have 2 confused folks walking around. Trust me, the world doesn't need anymore of those! lol..

Jill Scott is Pregnant!

Now, Jill Scott is one of my absolute favorite artist of all time. In fact, when I couldn't find the words to describe how much I was in love, I would put her music on and I knew what true love would sound like. (more on that later). When I heard she was getting a divorce from Lyzel, her true inspiration for her first album, I felt like I was getting a divorce. Now I go online to getting my daily black gossip update and she has not only completely finalized her divorce from DJ Lyzel Williams, a graphic artist.(2001-2007) but home girl has gotten engaged to Lil’ John Roberts, her drummer, and is having his baby. Wait, they kinda look alike. lol. They are expecting their first child together April 25. You know I was totally shocked. To top that, girlfriend has a tatt of his name behind her ear. Boy, he must be laying it doooooooooooooown!

One side of me wants to be overjoyed about her new relationship and pending birth, the other side of me wants to question the whole marriage thing and why these stars keep bailing out of these marriages. What ever happened to the tie that binds that is not easily broken. This microwave, instant society we live in has gotten crazy!! Now granted, I am not married and I was certainly not in their marriage, but man, these statistics are startling! I am not only seeing the whole "up n leave" mentality in Hollywierd, but in my day-to-day interactions with people that I know and don't even know.

I recently witnessed the breakup of a seemingly fairytale relationship. The 2 were dern near perfect for one another. It lasted for a few years. They got engaged, bought a house, and began preparing for the wedding. So we thought. Homegirl kept having anxiety attacks about "forever" and just upped and walked out of the relationship. Homeboy was devastated, naturally. You know men take forever to get to the alter mentally, so she might as well as ran him over with an 18-wheeler. So, needless to say, the relationship was shot to smithereens! Wait, it gets better. Months, maybe weeks, later, homegirl is completely in a new "I LOVE ME SOME HIM" relationship with another guy that looks a lot like her ex and she's pregnant. (Almost identical to the Jill Scott situation). And the dude is about to get engaged to another chick. This baffles me. The crazy thing is, this isn't the first time Ive heard of a situation like this. People run in and out of relationships without making them work or remembering why God has placed them together. Wait, I take that back. Half the time, God has nothing to do with their union, so that's the main problem all together. You HAVE to have God in, over, and throughout your relationship.

I don't know, it's hard to judge a situation unless you've been in it or currently in it, so I can't be the best expert in this. But I have been in a place where the "love of my life" was in love in the next 5 minutes, which led me to believe that our love never existed. Instead of continuing to wreck my brain about the validity of it, I just thanked God that I was able to experience what I had and used it all as growth material. Let me stop talking about this before my head starts hurting.

We need to do some serious praying for the success of our marriages and our future seeds. We need to at least TRY to make it last forever!

Lyrics to : He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat)
You love me especially different every time
You keep me on my feet happily excited
By your cologne, your hands, your smile, your intelligence
You woo me, you court me, you tease me, you please me
You school me, give me some things to think about
Ignite me, you invite me, you co-write me, you love me, you like me
You incite me to chorus, ooh
Ooh...

You love me especially different every time
You keep me on my feet happily excited
By your cologne, your hands, your smile, your intelligence
You woo me, you court me, you tease me, you
please meYou school me, give me things to think about
Invite me, you ignite me, co-write me, you love me, you like me
Incite me to chorus
La, la, la...Da, da, da...Do, do, do...

You're different and special
You're different and special in every way imaginable
You love me from my hair follicles to my toenails
You got me feeling like the breeze, easy and free and lovely and new
Oh when you touch me
I just can't control it
When you touch me,
I just can't hold it
The emotion inside of me, I can feel it
Ah...

I heart Target: History of Target

Well folks, I am officially done with my after Christmas shopping from Target! I have spent maybe $300 on some of the nicest pieces that you will ever see. This is why I love Target. You can get so much bang for your buck. Target prides itself on providing upscale product for low scale pricing. And while some of the pricing may seem a little exorbitant at first, you have to remain patient. Target is one of few stores that slashes prices on their products down to 90% off. This means Target is really making some cheese! Lol.

I have decided to dedicate this story to the history of my most favorite store in the world. You would be surprised at some of the history. Read below and let me know what you think!

With its familiar red bull’s eye logo, Target Stores have become the United States' second-largest discount chain behind giant Wal-Mart. Target offers merchandise and brand names that are aimed at a more upscale shopper than Wal-Mart. With strong growth from expansion, Target reported $46.839 billion in sales and earnings of $3.198 billion in 2004. At the beginning of the year, the company operated 1,172 regular Target stores and 136 Super Target stores that include a supermarket as well. Target has stores in 47 states. Target is not playing with yhall. Here’s how it all started!

Target Background and History

Target is a chain of discount department stores that are about 95,000 to 135,000 square feet and was founded by Douglas J. Dayton and John Geisse. The first Target store "T-1" opened on May 1, 1962 in Roseville, Minnesota. That store was closed and demolished on January 8, 2005, to make room for a Super Target, which opened on October 9 of the same year. The name "Target" originated from Dayton's publicity director, Stewart K. Widdess, and was intended to prevent consumers from associating the new discount store chain with the department store. In 1968, Target changed its bull’s eye logo to a more modern look, and expanded into St. Louis, Missouri, with two new units.

Target carries hardlines ("regular" products and goods), softlines (clothing), and a limited amount of groceries, mostly non-perishable. Specifically, Target stores carry clothing, shoes, jewelry, health and beauty products, electronics, compact discs, DVDs, bedding, kitchen supplies, sporting goods, toys, pet supplies, automotive supplies, hardware supplies, and food. They also carry seasonal merchandise such as patio furniture during the summer and Christmas decorations during November and December. (These items go from 50% to 75% to 90% off fairly quickly, so always hunt for these sales when you go!)

Target has many exclusive deals with various designers and name-brands, including Michael Graves, Mossimo Giannulli, Fiorucci, Liz Lange, and Converse among others. To further increase their fashion profile, Target also created its fashion-forward Go International line, which hires famous designers to design collections available only for a few months. Many stores may also have one-hour photo processing, a portrait studio, an optical store, a pharmacy, and a garden center. Stores opened or re-modeled in 2004 or later also include the expanded snack bar that is featured in Target Greatland locations. These generally include a Starbucks Coffee shop, a Pizza Hut Express, and a Taco Bell Express in addition to Target's "Food Avenue". It has also been reported that Cold Stone Creamery and Target have signed a deal to test in-store ice cream shops in four stores. In 2008, Target has begun to use the name "Target Cafe" in place of "Food Avenue".

As we fast forward to 2009, Target now consists of 1,591 stores (as of October 2007)It has units in all states except for Hawaii and Vermont, operating under the mastheads of Target, Target Greatland, and SuperTarget. Target Corporation has aggressive plans to have 2,000 stores open by the year 2010, including expanding to Hawaii.

Super Targets are pretty exciting too. The first SuperTarget opened in Omaha, Nebraska in 1995, and the second SuperTarget opened in Lawrence, Kansas, later that same year.As of October 2007. Target operated 210 SuperTarget stores in 22 U.S. states; the majority of those are in Texas and Florida, with sizable numbers in Minnesota and Colorado.

Target also pride themselves on having “Urban Stores”. These stores are often found in the heart of busy cities and are unique in achitecture and location. Vertical transportation is provided in the store by escalator, elevator, or Vermaport, a specialized escalator for carts. Target has used their uTrban store concept to open multiple story stores in city centers such as in Brooklyn, New York City, Miami, Glendale, Los Angeles, Chicago, Pasadena, California, San Diego, Washington, D.C., and Minneapolis.

I think what I love about Target is the feel of the store! It feels upscale, but you don’t feel like you’re giving your soul to have it. Lol. You get fashion forward clothes, top of the line merchandise, and an upscale atmosphere all for the low. Maaaaaan, you can’t beat that! Lol. Target has done a wonderful job at rising above its country cousins, Wal-Mart and K-Mart. People even joke about Target calling it “Tar-geee”, like it is an upscale French boutique! Here’s a little background on that: The pseudo-French pronunciation has incorrectly been believed to have been started by Oprah Winfrey, when she used the French pronunciation to refer to the store on her television show; it has actually been traced back to 1962, the year the first Target store opened. This pronunciation has also led some people to incorrectly believe that the company is French-owned.

Target tends to attract younger and more educated and affluent customers than its competitors. Here are some stats: Currently, the median Target shopper is 41 years old, which is the youngest of all major discount retailers that Target competes directly against. The median household income of Target's customer base is roughly $63,000. Roughly 76% of Target customers are female, and more than 45% have children at home. About 80% have attended college and 48% have completed college. Ninety-seven percent of American consumers recognize the Target Bullseye logo.

So if you don’t get a blog from me, guess where I probably am… yep… TARGET! Lol
